This my maiden attempt in the Blogchatter’s A to Z challenge. I am nervous and excited as I await where it takes me. I mulled over various themes, from parenting to philosophy as these, I believe are my strong areas, relatively speaking. I stepped out of my comfort zone recently, when I moved towards writing, leaving behind a career in medicine that I had so far given my all. In a bid to make it a habit, I wanted to step out of the comfort zone again and try something more challenging.
Being a descendant of refugees, since both sets of my grandparents migrated from Pakistan after partition, this is very close to my heart. And what has always surprised me is the fact that no one talked about this much in my house. I have grown up hearing very few anecdotes but read whatever came my way.
So as a tribute to my roots, I am attempting to write 26 short stories based around the theme, ‘Partition’ that created an irrevocable rift as India split into two in 1947. It was the biggest mass migration in world history across two nations. As the nations built themselves up, so did its people, one step at a time. I shudder to think what they must have thought when they got to know that they had may be hours to pack, when their lives were in danger, when they didn’t know what tomorrow will bring for them…..
I know it is a tough task that I have chalked out for myself, especially as I do not have much to fall back on. But this idea has been in my mind since forever . Join me in my cathartic journey, as I attempt to trace my roots.
